This article discusses the pivotal role of continuing education in enhancing teacher quality in Basel, Switzerland. It emphasizes continuing education as a lifelong process aimed at improving teachers' pedagogical skills, self-confidence, and professional development. The article outlines various delivery formats of professional development, including formal structures such as workshops, courses, and seminars, as well as informal means like webinars and forums. Special attention is given to the work of the Pädagogisches Zentrum PZ.BS (Pedagogical Centre) which provides a range of educational programs supporting teacher and school leadership advancement. The piece also highlights the competencies targeted by the programs, such as pedagogical, leadership, and developmental skills, and mentions the online course offerings and their accessibility. The article positions these initiatives as vital to maintaining quality assurance and the ongoing professionalization of teaching staff in the Basel education system.
